Third year Of Growth For Goss - US$61m Earnings
With US$1.14 billion in sales and pre-tax earnings of US$61 million, Goss International posted a third consecutive year of sales and earnings growth in 2006.
Goss International received orders from 46 countries in 2006.
Highlights in the newspaper sector included three orders for new Goss Flexible Printing System (FPS) presses and completion of the first installation at Independent News and Media in Northern Ireland.
The company also earned double-width press orders in North America from The New York Times and The Fredericksburg (Virginia) Free Lance-Star.
According to the company, Universal and Community presses continued to be successful, whilst the introduction of new Magnum press models in four-page and eight-page formats was also significant.
Goss now believes it has an industry leading share of global single-width press orders.
The company's production facility in Nantes, France shipped more than 700 Universal and Uniliner printing units and folders in 2006.
During last year in the commercial web sector, Goss said it delivered more than 50 Sunday press printing units equipped with its combination of Automatic Transfer (AT) and Autoplate technology, which was an increased from the dozen units supplied in 2005.
Goss claimed that AT technology allows job changes to be completed without stopping a press, reducing waste, downtime and run-length thresholds.
Transcontinental in Canada and Stark Druck in Germany were amongst the printers to commission Goss AT presses in 2006, whilst installation of two automated Sunday 4000 AT press systems began at Cox Target Media in the USA.
The company added that its M-600 press remained a world market leader in the 16-page sector, with new orders placed by printing companies in 18 countries.
Orders for Goss newspaper inserting systems in the USA more than quadrupled in 2006, boosted by demand for shaftless Magnapak packaging systems for high speed and automated zoning of newspaper supplements.
Chicago Tribune, the third largest newspaper in the USA, ordered six Magnapak systems.
Goss also launched new-generation Pacesetter saddlestichers now consistently providing net productivity in excess of 25,000 books per hour, it is claimed.
The company's chief executive officer, Bob Brown, commented: "Opportunities to enhance the effectiveness, application range and overall value of web offset printing are extensive.
We are grateful for the chance to work with printers and publishers around the world in pursuing this potential.
Customers ordered or installed every one of our major press and finishing systems in 2006, demonstrating the value of our diverse portfolio." He continued: "We are proud of the market and technology leadership positions the Goss International team has achieved.
We have created a truly global company with an innovative and comprehensive product and support portfolio that our customers are applying to enhance the value proposition of print.".
