Web Press Makes Printer's Short-Run
Efficiency
Investing to meet the growing volume demands of customers, Southwest Offset Printing has bought an automated Goss M-600 web press, the second such press at its Gardena, California (USA) plant.
The new eight-unit, two-web press will feature the Autoplate fully-automatic plate changing system, closed loop controls and Goss's Web Centre components for automated pre-setting and workflow Goss International will also provide an Ecocool dryer with integrated chill rolls

Goss International announced that it will have a major presence at Drupa 2004 in May and will present future concepts to drive print.
A JF-45 folder with a 4/8 page module will allow the press system to produce signatures with between four and 32 pages, added Goss.
Installation of the press will begin in July.
Southwest Offset Printing specialises in newspaper and publication printing and offers complete pre-press, heatset and non-heatset web printing and post-press capabilities at two facilities near Los Angeles.
The company currently operates 10 web presses, including the M-600 system installed in 2002 and a 96-couple Goss Mercury press used to print a regional edition of The New York Times.
Southwest Offset Printing's chief executive officer, Greg McDonald, said: "Goss International has the most advanced technology and a proven ability to execute in support of that technology.
We have seen this with our existing M600 system and the new press will make us even more responsive and efficient in the short-run publication sector." He added: "We have established an exceptional relationship with Goss International on multiple levels.
That has led to a level of collaboration that allows us to maximise the unique advantages of its press technology." The M-600 press is claimed to be currently the best selling 16-page web press in the world.
More than 2,000 printing units have been installed in a range of configurations capable of printing at 45,000 impressions per hour (iph) to 70,000iph, added Goss.
