Universal Press Boosts Print And Colour Capacity

A Goss International product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Oct 11, 2007

With the objective of increasing overall printing and colour capacity, Societa Tipografica Siciliana has ordered a Goss Universal 75 press, which will be installed next summer.

Bound for Societa Tipografica's plant in Catania, Sicily (Italy) the press has been ordered with a 600mm cut-off and will be configured with four, four-high towers, a 2:3:3 jaw folder and four reelstands, which will be installed at 90 degrees to the press to make best use of available space at the site.

Goss said that printing 150,000 copies per day, the Universal 75 will have a maximum capacity of 64 full-colour tabloid pages running in collect mode once the installation is complete.

Mr Alonzo, the plant manager at Societa Tipografica Siciliana, explained: "We chose the Goss Universal 75 press because we are impressed with the design.

By allowing the reelstands to be placed at 90 degrees little space is occupied on the floor and we can be open to future opportunities for press extensions." And he added: "We currently operate two Goss Community SSC presses and we have been very happy with the after-sales support.

This reinforced our decision to select a Goss press for our latest investment.

We are confident that our positive experience with Goss International will continue with our new Universal press." Societa Tipografica Siciliana was founded in 1983 and, employing approximately 60 people, prints local editions of national daily newspapers, including Milano Finanza, Libero, Libero Mercato, Manifesto, Europa, Il Giornale, Italia Oggi, l'Unita, Il Corriere della Sera and La Gazzetta dello Sport, for example.

The order placed for the Universal 75 press is the ninth taken in Italy in the last 12 months, said Goss International sales manager for Southern Europe, Jennifer N'Guyen.

She said: "This order confirms the popularity of the Universal 75 press, which has been gained by the press's high productivity, flexibility and reliability.

The press of choice for many publishers, its reputation for production flexibility, as well as very high output, makes it the ideal machine for Italy's demanding publishing market.".
