Goss has claimed that it is to develop the world's first 96-page web offset press as part of a deal to supply Grafiche Mazzucchelli with a gapless blanket Sunday press platform.

Italian commercial printer Grafiche Mazzucchelli will install the new Sunday 5000 press with a 2,860mm (112-inch) web width in Seriate during late 2008 The agreement for Grafiche Mazzucchelli to buy the press was completed with the help of Macchingraf, Goss' commercial presses agent in Italy

Goss will supply also supply one of its Contiweb FD paster and an Ecocool dryer with integrated chill rolls with the four-unit Sunday 5000 press at Grafiche Mazzucchelli.

Guglielmo Fiori, the owner of Grafiche Mazzucchelli, commented: "We look forward to expanding our collaborative relationship with Goss International and to pursuing this ground breaking project that will give us a differentiating advantage in the marketplace." And Grafiche Mazzucchelli's managing director, Pierluigi Guerini, added: "We have had excellent success with 48-page and 64-page Sunday presses with pinless folders.

The wider 96-page format represents the next breakthrough, combining added high-pagination productivity with short-run efficiency." Jacques Navarre, senior vice president of sales for Goss International in Europe, said gapless blanket technology is vital to achieving the 4x12 pagination format of the Sunday 5000 press.

Tubular Sunday press blankets eliminate the vibrations associated with blanket gaps, providing the stability necessary for the wider cylinder configuration, he added.

Navarre explained: "Our original gapless and pinless Sunday presses revolutionised web printing, allowing higher quality at higher speeds on wider webs.

The wider Sunday 5000 press is the latest in a long line of developments that have continuously extended the competitive advantages of this proven Sunday press platform.".
