Brazilian Media Group Boosts Color
New five-tower Goss Community press to enable full color throughout all Grupo Sinos titles.
Newspaper publisher and media corporation Grupo Sinos in Brazil has signed an order with Goss International for a Goss Community SSC press after observing recent installations in Panama and Venezuela.
The investment in the press with five four-high towers has been made to increase color capacity so that all Grupo Sinos publications, including flagship title Jornal NH, can be printed in full color.
The new shaftless Community SSC press will be configured with two folders.
One of the towers will be dedicated to UV printing to deliver greater production flexibility.
In addition to publishing its own titles such as Jornal NH, Jornal VS, Diadio de Canoas and ABC Domingo, Grupo Sinos also prints for approximately 60 other local titles.
The two-folder configuration will allow the publisher greater flexibility including, in conjunction with the UV capability, printing both coldset newspaper products and high-quality semi-commercial products.
Sergio Gusmao, Industrial Director at Grupo Sinos comments on the decision, "Grupo Sinos has had a pioneering culture since its inception in 1957".
"We purchased our first Community press in 1968, shortly after the press was first introduced to the market in 1962".
"We have invested in this press again because we are impressed with how its continuous development has delivered advanced capabilities, reliability and operator-friendly features".
Scheduled for shipment in December 2007, the new Community press at Grupo Sinos will be supplied with zero-speed splicers and NP600 infeeds for each four-high tower, providing improved web guidance and tension.
Gusmao notes, "As with all markets today, there is a requirement in Brazil for more color and better quality".
"Not only will we achieve increased capacity and improved quality with the new press, but many production benefits too".
"The flexibility and ease-of-use of the Goss Community press is particularly valuable to us because of the high volume of jobs we deliver".
Fernando Guerrero, sales manager for Goss International, adds, "Brazil continues to be a very important market for Goss International".
"With a trend for popular tabloids printed in full color, each major publisher in the market has been obligated to create a newspaper to compete".
"Grupo Sinos has always been one step ahead of the game, partly because the company retains its flexibility for customers".
"I am impressed with the passion each employee has shown towards the company and the project." Founded in 1957 by two brothers Mario Alberto Gusmao and Paulo Sergio Gusmao, Grupo Sinos started as a newspaper publishing business.
Today the company also owns several radio stations and provides internet services for the region.
