The first press in the Ukraine with gapless blanket technology - a new 48-page Goss Sunday 4000 press - has been installed by contract printer Blitz-Inform Holding.

Blitz-Inform has installed the Goss Sunday 4000 to increase capacity, efficiency and obtain more opportunities in the high-pagination catalogue and magazine sectors The new four-unit double-circumference Sunday press is equipped with Autoplate fully-automatic plate changing and a Goss Contiweb FD flying paster for fully-automated loading and unloading

Goss International also supplied an Ecocool dryer with integrated chill rolls with claimed lower operating costs and a PCF-3 pinless combination folder that provides pagination and product format options.

Goss said that the combination of gapless blankets and pinless folding allowed Blitz-Inform Holding to select a shorter cut-off to achieve paper savings.

Blitz-Inform's vice president, Alexej Usenko, said: "Many of our customers are large publishing groups, so we were looking to expand our services to meet the wider requirements of this market.

With the innovative gapless blanket technology, the Sunday 4000 press produces excellent quality and superior productivity.

We currently have six 16-page presses that have served us very well but we expect the additional capacity and versatility will open up many new business opportunities for us." He added that confidence in the support of Heidelberg Web Solutions, Goss International' agent for commercial web presses in Ukraine, also played a part in the company's decision.

Usenko continued: "We installed two M-600 presses in 2002 and 2003 and the continuing support we have received has been excellent.

The presses consistently and reliably produce the high quality print our customers have come to demand.

With the new Sunday press we hope not only to meet but also to exceed all their expectations." Jacques Navarre, vice president of sales for Goss International, commented: "Ukrainian printers are raising the bar in terms of print quality, the number of magazine titles and catalogues in the region is increasing and run-length thresholds for web offset are continuing to come down.

High print quality and speed, combined with fast make-readies and low waste make the Sunday 4000 press an ideal option for run lengths spanning from below 10,000 copies to well in to the millions of copies.

This is the type of versatile, high-pagination efficiency that Blitz-Inform Holding requires." Founded in 1992, Blitz-Inform Holding employs 4,200 staff across three sites in Kiev and offices in the regions.

The company prints a variety of products, including labels, advertising material, flexible and cardboard packaging and commercial work.

The company also produces such magazines as Cosmo and Karavan.

Blitz-Inform also exports products across Eastern Europe and Asia.
