Harland Simon to replace drives on Goss press

A Harland Simon product story

Harland Simon has been appointed by Gleaner in Jamaica to replace the drives on its Goss Urbanite press.

The company will replace Fincor drives and a PLC system while replacing all proprietary communications systems with an Ethernet/IP network, connecting four Allen Bradley Powerflex DC drives with an Allen Bradley Compactlogix PLC, all with built-in RSLogix diagnostic software.

At the same time, a touch-screen central-maintenance PC will be installed to streamline fault-finding procedures and allow for remote diagnostic support via a VPN line.

The current system will remain operational until the new system is fully tested and commissioned, which should eliminate any risk to production.

The company said that this method also keeps costs down while replacing all the vulnerable parts of the system.

The method is based on techniques that have been developed for the replacement of systems originally supplied by Goss, Rockwell Automation, MAN Roland and Honeywell.
