Viscometer Enables Press Operators to Go With Flow

With the Viscolite T15 portable viscometer, the latest addition to the range from Hydramotion, it is claimed that a press operator can easily measure the viscosity of a small sample of ink, quickly and accurately whilst avoiding the inconvenience of the traditional efflux cup method.

The company believes that with the efflux cup, even practised operators may find it difficult to get accurate or consistent results, which can be fiddly and time-consuming to use, particularly if the ink has to be filtered first.

The Viscolite T15 has a short solid steel sensor connected to a battery-powered display unit.

It is said to need no more than 10ml (0.34 fluid ounces) of ink, where the efflux cup typically needs a minimum of 177ml (6 fluid ounces).

The viscosity can be read off as soon as the sensor is dipped into the ink.

An integrated thermometer means users can take temperature-corrected readings instantly, without having to adjust the temperature of the sample.

The sensor only needs to be wiped clean and it is ready for the next measurement and there is little scope for operator error or inconsistency.

As the instrument operates at a high shear rate, readings approximate well to actual press viscosity said Hydramotion.

There are no bearings, seals or moving parts, so maintenance requirements are minimal.

The company claimed that the stainless steel construction has made the Viscolite a popular choice for reliability, accuracy and speed even in the most demanding environments.
