HP has been awarded the Guinness World Record for the largest photo exhibition ever, having captured, printed and displayed 34,401 photographs of the nation's smiles on the HP Designjet 130nr.

HP has been awarded the Guinness World Record for the largest photo exhibition ever, having captured, printed and displayed 34,401 photographs of the nation's smiles on the HP Designjet 130nr.

Each individual image has been mounted in a gallery at the Royal College of Art for the public to view over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Red Cell Response, the agency responsible for collating and printing the images, chose the HP Designjet 130nr to undertake this challenging project.

Tim Shepherd of Red Cell Response said: "We needed to make the process as painless as possible and we knew that with the Designjet 130nr we would get guaranteed reliability and accurate results".

"This was such an enormous task we needed to avoid reprints and save time where possible".

"The job used two units for two and a half weeks and we were able to benefit from uninterrupted printing as the HP Designjet 130nr allows you to change cartridges whilst still printing".

The photographs were collected over a six month period and uploaded onto a website.

Red Cell used Quark XPress with Quark Exclusive to transfer the data from the online database to the printer.

These photos were then printed out as 6x4inch images on rolls of HP semi-gloss photo universal paper for high quality.

They were then individually cut and mounted 100 per board, ready for the exhibition.

The HP Designjet 130nr is a six-ink colour graphics printer for design, proofing and photography.

The 2400 dpi resolution offers true-to-life photo-quality and the 4 picolitre ink drop size ensures that details are sharp.

HP colour layering technology, coupled with proprietary dye-based inks, also creates smooth, continuous tones and a wide colour gamut for more life-like images.

These inks work with swellable media to ensure that the photographs will last for up to 83 years.

Mark Ellis, HP business manager said: "The HP Designjet 130 series has received an excellent response from graphics and photography professionals who demand accurate reproduction of the colours they create".

"We have been involved with a number of exhibitions including the National Gallery and the HYPE gallery and we are delighted that the 130 was able to play a critical role in achieving this Guinness World Record".

Britain's Biggest Smile exhibition will be open from Friday 26 August to Monday 29 August at the Royal College of Art, Kensington Gore, London.
