HP yesterday announced the integration of three finishing products developed by Horizon, in its digital publishing workflows featuring HP Indigo presses.
The Horizon products - the BQ-270 perfect binder, the HT-30 three-side trimmer and the APC 61II guillotine cutter - are being demonstrated on HP's stand - 12005 at Print '05 in Chicago (USA).
Alon Bar-Shany, vice president and general manager of HP's Indigo division, said: "With Horizon's products, our customers can offer the best of both worlds - liquid ink digital offset-quality printing produced by a one-stop-shop process that creates finished products ready for delivery." Eijiro Hori, the president of Horizon International, commented: "We believe that this is a great opportunity for Horizon to work with HP Indigo, one of the leading companies in the digital color printing market.
Horizon finishing products are a strong addition to the end-to-end workflows available to HP Indigo customers." The Horizon post-press finishing products are compatible with the HP Indigo press 1050, 3050, 5000 and w3200.
All HP Indigo presses employ the company's Electro Ink, which is said to bind with the substrate fibres to produce the look and feel of offset printing.
The Horizon BQ-270 and HT-30 are being used on the HP stand to create complete softcover books.
The Indigo presses print the inside block and the covers of the books.
The book covers are manually loaded in to a cover feeder on the BQ-270 and the book blocks are then manually fed by the operator one at a time.
The BQ-270 automatically feeds a cover from the cover feed tray, scores it and binds it around the book block.
It is claimed to process up to 500 books per hour.
The HT-30 is an automatic three-side trimmer that uses a single knife to trim the book to the final size.
The APC 61 general purpose guillotine cutter is used for multiple applications where documents need to be trimmed to their final size.
