Powlsons, one of north Wales' most established printers, has installed an HP Indigo press 1050 at its headquarters in Colwyn Bay.

Powlsons, one of north Wales' most established printers, has installed an HP Indigo press 1050 at its headquarters in Colwyn Bay The HP Indigo press 1050 has generated new business opportunities from both new and existing clients, said John Jones, the general manager at Powlsons

He commented: "The new press will ultimately enable us to compete with larger print service providers.

We can now offer value-added services, primarily variable data printing, which is going to play a major role in the future of our business." The HP Indigo press 1050 has a total cost of ownership, which makes it suitable for small to medium size printers in today's demanding commercial printing market, said the company.

John Jones said: "The HP Indigo press 1050 makes variable-data short-runs cost effective in rapid turn-arounds, even allowing us to provide a same-day service for our customers." The liquid HP Electro Ink technology proved a decisive factor in Powlsons' decision to invest in the HP Indigo press 1050.

Director of Powlsons, Peter Cordery said: "We carried out independent tests and were extremely impressed with the colour printing quality of the HP Electro Ink.

It certainly lives up to its claim of matching offset in vibrancy and colour consistency." Powlsons' investment in the Indigo 1050 has also highlighted the emerging trend for utilising digital printing to complement traditional offset litho, said HP.

John Jones explained: "Merging the two printing technologies has enabled us to offer customers a very tailored service and it really maximises the output of our printing facility.

For example, we could print brochures with personalised covers using variable data, whilst using the offset litho to print the body.

The harmony between the two is very good." And Peter Cordery added: "We see ourselves as a forward thinking company, dedicated to keeping our finger on the pulse.

Printing is an ever-changing medium and much of our profit is ploughed back in to improving our technology, ensuring we are always at the forefront of the industry.

We have an eclectic mix of customers, from small local businesses ordering small batches of business cards, to major corporations that demand high quality catalogues." John Jones said that he sees a bright future for the company: "There is every possibility that we will expand further and invest in new HP Indigo presses in the near future to handle the amount of new business coming our way.

We have a great relationship with the sales team and the excellent after sales service ensures our press will have continuous optimum performance at all times." Paul Randall, the marketing manager for HP Indigo UK, said: "The opportunities for business growth in the high-quality, short-run variable data sector will ensure Powlsons maintains a competitive edge and the HP Indigo press 1050 is a highly effective digital press with which to enter this market.".
