Cheshire (UK) label printer, Commercial Label Products, has entered the digital production market by installing an HP Indigo press ws4050.

Cheshire (UK) label printer, Commercial Label Products, has entered the digital production market by installing an HP Indigo press ws4050 The investment will enable the company to provide new services to customers seeking cost-effective short-run and variable data labels, as well as new products in the shrink sleeve and sachet markets

Nigel Painton, managing director of Commercial Label Products, said: "Our investment in the Indigo press ws4050, was made having identified an increasing demand from customers for high quality short-run label applications.

In order to cost-effectively meet this demand, without compromising on quality, the HP Indigo press was the only solution." The press harnesses HP's liquid Electro Ink technology to produce a quality comparable to offset, achieving 97 per cent of Pantone colours and white ink on a range of substrates, including bright silver stock.

The Indigo press ws4050 can print on sensitive, thin films, as heat is not an integral part of the production process, said the company.

"This is a key feature of the press that we hope to take advantage of in the shrink-sleeve and sachet markets, something we previously did not have the capacity to cater for," said Painton.

The new digital facility is opening extended opportunities for Commercial Label Product's customers, believes the company.

Painton continued: "We recently delivered a demanding job for a client that produces tracking devices for the automotive industry.

The five-colour (including white) on silver paper labels comprised a series of three variable data options, in a run-length of 5,000.

Using the Indigo press ws4050 we completed the job within three hours.

This would have taken two days on a conventional press, with each series having to be run through separately." And he added: "This new facility is allowing us to explore new avenues, such as offering customers a re-issuing service with no plate costs, where they can simply update the information on existing labels as and when the data changes." Time savings not only benefit customers, it also allows Commercial Label Products greater capacity to take on new work, maximising the profitability of the press.

"As well as opening up new opportunities in the variable data market, we can offer our customers a greater level of service.

We are currently offering clients a free of charge digitally printed proof as we are confident that the customer will go on to order having seen the outstanding quality.

It's additional services like this that will help us to secure our already loyal customer-base, and attract new customers at the same time," said Painton.

Commercial Label Products is a privately owned company that has been delivering short-to-medium run labels, in up to eight colours, for 25 years.

The company places great emphasis on offering customers the greatest range of services at the best value, by keeping all production in-house, from design and pre-press through to printing, finishing and dispatching, added HP.

Paul Randall, HP's UK marketing manager for the Indigo Digital Press Division, said: "Entering the digital market with the Indigo press ws4050 is a natural way for Commercial Label Products to evolve its business in a new direction of profitability and growth.

Within two months the investment is already showing great potential for extending services for existing customers, as well as opening routes in to new markets.

For long-term growth, the possibilities are infinite.".
