HP has sold an HP Indigo press 3050 to Laser Graphics Digital, its first sale at Ipex 2006.

HP has sold an HP Indigo press 3050 to Laser Graphics Digital, its first sale at Ipex 2006.

The seven-colour capacity press has been bought as part of the company's strategy of expansion and will drive a new web-based automated sales service.

"The affordability and flexibility of the HP Indigo press 3050 enables print shops to expand their services and explore new business opportunities," said Alon Bar-Shany, vice president and general manager, of HP's Indigo division.

"The wide variety of variable-data applications, combined with the press's offset quality means that businesses can create personalised marketing material that is proven to yield significantly better response rates," he added.

Laser Graphics invested in the HP Indigo press 3050 to double its digital print capacity, improve colour quality for full personalisation and establish an efficient on-demand service for new and existing customers.

In the next 12 months Laser Graphics anticipates increased revenue of 30 per cent due to the productivity of the press, and it has invested in its first dedicated sales representative specifically to maximise those opportunities.

Bill Smyth, managing director of Laser Graphics, said: "We have focused our expertise on digital printing since our first HP Indigo press was installed eight years ago and today the technology HP offers really opens a host of opportunities for high quality personalised print.

We haven't found another digital supplier that can match this level of quality and flexibility.

The company currently provides a range of digitally printed products from business cards to personalised brochures.

On-demand print is a key sector for Laser Graphics with jobs including personalised guest passes for the Monaco Grand Prix, which had a tight two-day deadline.

The new press will increase Laser Graphics' capacity and enable it to offer longer print runs.

Smyth added: "We produce a range of products on a broad variety of substrates, and it's essential that our press can handle this.

A lot of digital presses struggle on heavier substrates, but the HP Indigo press 3050 allows us to print on substrates up to 350gsm, as well as acetates and self-adhesives.

We're not limited in the services we can offer our customers, and from a profitability perspective, this is crucial.

The HP Indigo press 3050 is a seven-colour digital offset press.

It is claimed to produce 4,000 four-colour A4 single sided pages-per-hour (two-up) or 16,000 single-colour A4 pages-per-hour (two-up).

Laser Graphics specialises in digital print and also runs a large format division producing poster graphics on an HP Designjet 5500.

Large format jobs have been delivered to the Open University, Ikea and professional football team MK Dons.
