Indigo Digital Press Record Sales Drive Changes
HP has announced that its Indigo Division has reported a record quarter in driving the transformation from analogue to digital printing.
"We had to work hard to achieve these figures, since the market wasn't initially ripe for digital printing," said Jasper Romein, managing director of Romein Grafisch Management, who manages the company with his father Wim.
He added: "But now more and more clients have become aware of the benefits and are beginning to demand variable printing." A typical example of a variable printing job at Romein Grafisch Management is a weekly repeat order for greeting cards.
The orders are issued by a card publisher that sells picture postcards to bookstores and other sales points in various cities in Holland.
Romein manages an image database for this client and processes a weekly order form with variable requirements.
The client indicates what pictures must be printed and which need to include specific text, such as 'greetings from'.
The average run length per card is at least 25.
Jasper Romein explained: "We began digital printing with an HP Indigo press 1000 because it combined excellent offset quality with the flexibility of variable printing.
Today we are replacing this machine with a four-color HP Indigo press 3050 to achieve even higher productivity and deliver even higher printing quality." Romein Grafisch Management's customer base mainly consists of advertising agencies and printing companies.
The graphic arts sales office Samplonius and Samplonius Projectbegeleiding generates a large order volume for the company.
A cooperative arrangement with Meuldijk and Van Loon Producenten, a printer and producer of display materials, brings in an additional stream of job orders.
For finishing purposes, Romein cooperates with a bindery that is completely geared to handle small runs.
"These combined resources enable us to offer a complete graphic services package," said Jasper Romein.
He said that the Indigo press 3050 has proven to be the ideal machine for card company's repeat orders of picture postcards.
Romein explained: "We are using single-side coated cardboard.
The Indigo press 3050 allows us to do duplex printing on heavier paper stock, which is something that we weren't able to do before.
This feature is a considerable improvement for us." The high production capacity of the new press is energising the sales activities at Romein Grafisch Management.
In the near future, the company plans to expand its service to include on-line ordering.
Clients will be able to order a variety of marketing material from business cards to promotional documents.
As Romein Grafisch Management expands its services, the Indigo press 3050 can reliably deliver client-pleasing results to ensure successful growth, believes the company.
"We want to position ourselves as a small but responsive company, where the customer can depend upon us for a comprehensive package of smart graphic solutions," concluded Jasper Romein.
