Digital Press Continues Former Repro Firm's Growth

HP Indigo customer, CMYK, is celebrating its 10th anniversary in the digital printing industry.
Said to be one of the first companies to adopt digital printing from the outset, CMYK has been using HP Indigo presses since the company moved in to digital production in 1996, after managing director Geoff Lavey visited Ipex and saw the launch of the Indigo E-print 1000 system.
He left the exhibition with an idea to develop his business and subsequently, the repro house changed direction to become a full service digital print provider.
Today the company uses a four-colour HP Indigo press 1000 to produce print ranging from training manuals and sales aids to ticket wallets for its 400-strong client base.
Lavy said: "More than half of the clients we started with a decade ago are still regular clients today and only 10 per cent of them still request proofs.
The quality of our printing exceeds expectations and that is a testament to the leading digital equipment we have here at CMYK." The HP Indigo press 1000 currently in use at the Surrey premises can produce 200 copies of a 16-page book in a single day and customers often send jobs to be printed on-demand and with short turn-around times added the company.
Lavy commented: "Today I get to oversee 99 per cent of the jobs that go out the door because we are a small company.
This allows us the time to pay due attention to each piece of print and that quality assurance has helped us form strong relationships with our clients.
We are one of a select group of digital suppliers who are approved by the print management agency, Williams Lea." And he added: "On their behalf we produce work for O2, Microsoft, BP, Volvo and Cancer Research amongst others." Lavy and his team are starting to pick up jobs on its HP Indigo press 1000 that would have been printed conventionally in CMYK's fledgling days because the run lengths for jobs are decreasing and the desire for variable data printing and personalisation is growing.
Paul Randall, marketing manager for the UK and Ireland at HP's Indigo digital press operation, said: "Digital printing allows businesses to experiment, innovate and satisfy the needs of their customers and the team at CMYK have led the way for digital print houses.".
