A Hewlett-Packard product story

HP will be digitally printing photography with its Z-series printers for a series of exhibitions in Arles (France).

HP will be digitally printing photography with its Z-series printers for a series of exhibitions in Arles (France).

The company has already launched the Street Photography online gallery to give professional photographers the opportunity to exhibit their work at the Recontres d'Arles photography festival in July.

P hotographers can display their work for free through the gallery.

They can also enter the competition to have their images displayed at Arles, where they will be reproduced professionally on the HP Z-series printer.

HP said that the Street Photography gallery encourages photographers to look at the urban landscape in innovative or unusual ways.

Cracks in the pavement, peeling walls, shadows cast by stairwells, could all be included in Street Photography.

The gallery works in a similar way to the HYPE galleries through which thousands of participants have exhibited their work online and seen them printed to a professional standard on HP Z-series printers in capital cities across the world, including London, Berlin, Paris and Singapore added HP.

The most recent Hype event in Berlin last November had 13,000 visitors to the exhibition and 60,000 unique visitors to the online gallery.

June 10 is the deadline for submitting images online before the competition closes.

The online gallery, however, will continue to run after that date for the rest of the year, creating a collection of Street Photography.

After the competition closes the best 30 entries will be exhibited at the Arles festival, which runs from July 3 to September 16.

The images will be printed on an HP Z-series printer, using premium HP papers, such as HP Satin Premium Instant Dry photo paper and HP Universal Instant Dry Photo semi-gloss.

The top 30 winners will also receive their own copies printed on the HP Z-series printers to add to their portfolios.

From those 30, one winner wil be chosen to receive a paid-for trip to the Arles festival.

HP claimed that the Z2100 and Z3100 printers are causing a stir amongst photographers by using pigment ink and technologies such as an in-built spectrophotometer that will consistently ensure that the competition images are museum-quality with 200 years' fade resistance.

"I am delighted that HP is supporting this endeavour through the Street Photography gallery and competition," said Francois Martin, EMEA graphic arts marketing manager at HP.

He added: "Given the runaway success of the HYPE galleries, we're expecting Street Photography to perform equally as well and given the diverse and personal subject matter, we're anticipating some great images to come through.

By using our Z-Series printers we're looking forward to doing the winning images justice by reproducing them to professional quality and showcasing how the best technology can complement the best photography." Martin continued: "The Z-Series printers contribute to a product portfolio from HP designed specifically for professional photographers including the Photosmart Pro B9180 announced last year, a leading printing system which allows photographers to be up to 30 per cent more productive.".
