HP releases large-format printers

HP has unveiled the Scitex FB7500, FB950, TJ8550 printers and the Designjet L65500 large-format signage printer, which features HP's latex inks.

The HP Scitex FB7500 prints at up to 500m2 per hour and features three-quarter automated loading to reduce idle time between sheets by up to 85 per cent.

Suitable for close-view POP and POS applications, exhibition graphics, signage, backlit displays and posters, the FB7500 is built on the HP Scitex TJ Series printing platform, and offers the added benefit of HP Scitex X2 printheads.

The printheads combine silicon-based micro-electromechanical systems and piezoelectric inkjets.

Supporting a native resolution of up to 500 dots per inch (dpi) in the FB7500, the printheads are claimed to provide the heavy ink flows required for high-speed, high-quality printing.

The Scitex FB7500 printer will be available worldwide in May 2009.

The Scitex FB950 printer is a robust flatbed UV printer that provides high-quality prints and high productivity on virtually any rigid or flexible media for the production of durable outdoor and indoor applications, including POP and POS signage, tradeshow graphics, interior decorations, banners and street furniture.

It is designed to increase productivity and profitability with efficient media loading and the ability to print multiple sheets at the same time.

The printer's six Scitex FB250 colour inks and printheads with variable-sized drops combine to produce great image detail of up to 1,200dpi x 600dpi optimised, as well as smooth colour transitions across a wide variety of media.

Advanced features, such as an on-board camera, spectrophotometer, embedded software and a solid media feed system, ensure consistent results and worry-free operation.

The Scitex FB950 printer will be available for worldwide general purchase on 15 November.

The Scitex TJ8550 printer features an up to 50 per cent increase in print speed and up to 20 per cent lower cost per print compared to the TJ8500.

With the TJ8550, PSPs can confidently respond to a wide range of customer requests for the high-speed production of indoor and outdoor applications, including sheet-to-sheet or double-sided applications, with the built-in Scitex double-sided printing upgrade.

Additionally, HP is offering the ability for users to have their current Scitex TJ8500 printers upgraded on-site.

The upgrade kit includes hardware, software, on-site installation and training, and will be available in February 2009.

To complement the Scitex TJ8550, HP has also introduced TJ200 Scitex UV-curable ink.

The Designjet L65500 printer features latex printing technologies to provide print businesses an alternative for creating a variety of indoor and outdoor applications while reducing the environmental impact of printing.

The 104-inch-wide printer offers sign and display PSPs a versatile system that can produce a range of applications with new water-based HP latex inks.

Prints produced with HP latex inks are odourless, emit low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), do not require special ventilation and are not classified as hazardous waste.

HP has also expanded its Graphic Arts Capture business success programme, a collection of tools, training and programmes to help HP large-format customers and HP Indigo press customers interested in offering large-format printing.

Capture includes customisable marketing templates, co-branded advertising templates and data sheets.
