Pankarte in Strasbourg, France, has bought an HP Scitex FB6700 flatbed printer for small print runs with a low environmental impact.

A point of purchase material (POP) specialist Pankarte serves the food, beauty and healthcare sectors.

The company manages the entire POP production process and because of its objective of meeting fast response times from in-house production resources the company chose the HP Scitex FB6700.

Michel Hartman, the chairman of Pankarte, said: 'The HP Scitex FB6700 was the obvious choice when we decided to move to digital printing.

Its ability to print small print runs on a large range of competitive substrates compared with screen printing, its excellent print quality and the use of environmentally-responsible water-based inks were decisive factors in our decision.

Using the HP Scitex FB6700 Pankarte was able to meet a customer's requirements and create 300 units of a 2.3 metre high single piece totem on corrugated cardboard in under 48 hours, for example.

In addition, the press's ability to handle large format media allows Pankarte to diversify the POP products it offers and direct printing on different rigid materials (such as cardboard, PVC, wood and metal, for instance).

Pankarte has isolated the HP Scitex FB6700 in a hall where what little ink waste is generated can be recovered and recycled.

Furthermore, 90 per cent of the work that Pankarte uses to print using UV screen printing is now done digitally, producing almost no by-product waste.

The HP Scitex FB6700 is said to be capable of printing advertising billboards directly onto rigid sheets up to 160cm x 320cm.

It is also said to be suitable for the production of a range of rigid applications, in particular advertising billboards, samples, short-run packaging and exhibition stands, due to the selection of widths and thicknesses of rigid substrates available.

The printer's process is entirely automated thanks to the integrated loader, dryer and unloader, facilitating access and maintenance and providing a high loading capacity, said HP.

The continuous laminator, available as an option, allows finishing to be automated.

The FB6700 is integrated into a single workflow system supporting the process, from the loading of the substrate to finishing, facilitating economies of time and space, added the company.
