Inkjet web press prints for leading book producers
Courier Corporation, North America's third-largest book manufacturer, has installed an HP T300 colour inkjet web press to expand its services to include digital printing.
According to HP companies such as Courier are using the HP T300 to create a new category in high-productivity printing as they shift digital technology from its historical niche application focus into mainstream manufacturing.
With the press installation at Courier's headquarters and another installation at French firm CPI, the HP T300 now produces books for two of the world's largest book manufacturers.
Aurelio Maruggi, vice president and general manager of inkjet high-speed production solutions at HP, said: 'Last year, Courier committed to become one of our first inkjet web press customers and, since that time, its executives have taught HP a great deal about the level of service, capabilities and quality needed to be an innovative publishing leader.
HP said that with the HP T300, print service providers like Courier can drive profitable growth by offering addressable 1,200 dots per inch (dpi) x 600dpi imaging in a speed and size combination that produces 2,600 A4 and letter-size pages per minute.
The press also provides image quality and durability on any low-cost, uncoated paper, as well as on a range of coated media.
Designed for high productivity the press enables users to purchase consumables as needed without click charges.
Publishing systems based on HP's T300 platform eliminate significant waste, claimed the company.
The press and its partner finishing systems provide an efficient, cost-effective and environmentally responsible digital approach to book manufacturing.
The HP T300 is available with a range of finishing equipment from HP partners to establish workflows for printing books, direct mail, transactional statements and newspapers.
HP's Smartstream print server systems are claimed to enable front-end processing on the press at full-press speeds, while optional HP Exstream software allows companies to create, manage and provide fully-customised documents for the press in data-intensive transactional and transpromotional printing applications.
James F Conway III, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Courier Corporation, said: 'We decided to partner with HP because of its advanced technology, exceptional personnel and significant experience in digital printing.
Working with HP to adapt its technology to work effectively in our market has been rewarding.
We look forward to a long and productive relationship with HP as we continue to invest in technology to maintain our competitive edge and provide our customers the highest level of service.
