The company is also investing in a new generation thermal CTP system, bringing total investment close to ?500,000 in the current round of capital expenditure.
A Speedmaster SM102-2P was installed two years ago and the increased capacity has put pressure on folding capacity.
That will be alleviated by the arrival of the new folder, which was selected only after an analysis of machines on offer, beating off MBO and Shoei.
Short Run Press felt it was right for the needs of its publishers, enabling the three folders to cope with 16pp, 24pp or 32pp sections quickly and easily.
Short Run Press director Murray Couch said: "We have been a specialist in the short run market for 23 years and today we are successfully beating off competition from digital by getting unit prices down to a point where we are very competitive at 200 or 300 copies in addition to providing the quality of offset litho and professional finishing." Short Run Press prints and binds mainly for educational bodies.
Customers include universities, institutes and publishers from all over the country.
It operates double day shifts at its 12,000 square foot premises in Exeter.
