Printmark of East Grinstead (UK) has taken delivery of a Heidelberg Speedmaster SM52-2 two-colour press and in just two weeks since installation it has been able to print 27 jobs that would previously have been put out.

As the company replaces a single colour Oliver press, director Mark Clare said: "This press takes us into a new league.

We love the print quality and turnround speed.

It gives us scope to handle four-colour work because the registration is pinpoint.

It helps us get our cost base right so that we are more competitive." The company handles general jobbing work, primarily stationery, for local south east businesses.

It has regular 1,000 letterhead orders but runs of 25,000 are not uncommon either.

Like other printers turnround times are under pressure, with typical lead times of three or four days and sometimes next day emergency services are required.

The company will invest in CTP as its next stage of development but the timing and choice will be decided by fellow director Dean O'Hara who overseas the company's pre-press operation.
