HSW Print in Tonypandy (Wales) missed out the interim Prinergy step and has taken its pre-press workflow from Delta to Printready in one step.

Printready is the pre-press workflow element in Heidelberg's Prinect family of production, colour control and management integrated networking systems.

HSW Print's managing director Malcolm Hackman said: "This move into Printready takes us two steps forward in technology.

Combined with the introduction of an MIS system, it has involved a lot of time, retraining and a steep learning curve.

It is easy to love the sight and sound of a lump of metal but software boxes don't have the same appeal.

Having said that, they are vital." Now working in PDFs the company can transfer files and data much faster and more easily and it opens up opportunities for it to operate within a JDF framework and to link production and business processes in the future, he added.

The company already uses Prepress Interface to take data between pre-press and its presses, ranging from a Heidelberg Speedmaster SM102-10P, through to a Digimaster mono digital line, in a closed loop of control.

With Printready HSW Print was able to keep its Signasetter imagesetter and Trendsetter CTP system.

It is a committed Heidelberg house and is determined that its pre-press will continue under this brand so that there is no different logic to complicate its production portfolio.

"Better, faster, cheaper, that is our mantra when it comes to any investment at the plant.

We have to be sure that we can work better and more productively with anything we buy and we are convinced that Printready gives us all three benefits and that customers will benefit from this purchase," Hackman said.
