Heidelberg is to outsource part of its IT infrastructure to HP Services (HPS) over a five-year period in an effort to standardise systems worldwide, whilst achieving 30% savings.

The deal for those services over a five-year span is valued at approximately 30 million Euros.

As of June 2004 HPS will be operating the SAP infrastructure for about 7,000 Heidelberg end users worldwide.

Some related Heidelberg employees would be transferred to HP.

"Our main IT strategy is the global consolidation and standardisation of IT systems and services cost effectively.

Cooperation with HP has proved to be successful.

This latest agreement with HP in the IT sector will improve SAP IT services, globalise and standardise and at the same time reduce costs by up to 30%," said Dr Herbert Meyer, the chief financial officer of Heidelberg.

The SAP systems of the three data centres that Heidelberg runs will be centralised in HP's data centre in Boeblingen.

In order to make SAP infrastructure more effective HP will also consolidate and optimise the SAP hardware platform and processes, which would result in significant cost reductions over the next five years said Heidelberg.

Wolfram J.

Fischer, the general manager of the technology solutions group at HP said: "As a long term technology and service provider for Heidelberg, HP welcomes the opportunity of expanding services with the now completed worldwide valid contract.

Heidelberg will have calculable high quality HP services.

At the same time the contract will strengthen the cooperation of both companies and promote future opportunities.".
