Portswood Colour Press has bought a new generation KH82 combination folder from Heidelberg and admitted it was tempted by many more products at Drupa.

Portswood Colour Press has bought a new generation KH82 combination folder from Heidelberg and admitted it was tempted by many more products at Drupa.

The new KH82 replaces a 15-year-old Stahl folder and the differences in performance reflect the extraordinary step forward in finishing technology in recent years.

The old folder ran at 4,000 sheets per hour (sph) to 5,000sph, whilst the new one will output 10,000sph to 12,000sph and the make-ready times will be at least halved, claimed the company.

The newer machine is said to have greater accessibility to all parts of the folder, which will handle 8pp, 16pp or 32pp work ready for saddle-stitching or perfect binding.

It runs other folders for smaller formats as well.

Portswood managing director Len Manser said: "These days with prices so tight, greater productivity from faster folding equipment is crucial to producing a profitable job.

I went to Drupa and saw much that was tempting and will shape our future buying decisions.

The Heidelberg halls were very impressive and the buoyant attitude of the people there was phenomenal." Portswood Colour Press is an all Heidelberg house running two five-unit B1 Speedmaster 102s and operating a 24-hour service from its Southampton base.
