After graduating from the University of Mannheim with a degree in business economics in 1989, Marcel Kiessling began his career at Heidelberg in sales.
Following a period supporting various projects and strategic product marketing and a responsibility as general manager of the direct imaging business unit, he took over as head of the Germany and Switzerland market centre in 2001.
As part of the restructuring of the company announced in November 2003, the worldwide sales organisation's original seven market centres were grouped into three key regions - Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), North and South America and Asia-Pacific.
Chief executive officer Bernhard Schreier previously oversaw North and South America on a temporary basis.
The company has also announced that Werner Albrecht (56) president of Heidelberg Deutschland GmbH will take over as the new president as head of the Germany and Switzerland market centre as of September 1 in addition to his existing role.
After studying law, Albrecht joined Heidelberg in 1978 to head up the legal department.
He was appointed sales director in 1988 and became chief executive officer of the Heidelberg Osteuropa holding company in Vienna in 1995.
His period in that post coincided with the building of the Heidelberg sales and service organisations in Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia.
As President of Heidelberg Web Systems in Dover, New Hampshire (USA), until its takeover by Goss International, Albrecht had been responsible for all of Heidelberg's web offset activities since 2001.
