Micropress in Halesworth (UK) is upgrading its B1 technology with a CP2000 version Heidelberg Speedmaster SM102-4P four-colour perfector A publisher in its own right, it generates 15 per cent of its turnover from its own newspaper and magazine titles, which include 'Van User' and 'Anglia Property'

But most of its work is shorter run magazines for other publishers, bringing in work from nationwide.

It believes that 90 per cent of throughput will be straight four-colour production but the 2:2 perfecting option will mean it could handle mono or spot colour, a requirement with some local freesheets that it publishes.

The new press supplements a SM74-5P, a B2 five-colour press.

Micropress managing director Mike Cross said: "The new SM102-4P replaces an eight year old Speedmaster.

Second hand prices are awful generally but we have got a return on investment or we would not be spending again.

We find Speedmaster technology reliable and Heidelberg's service and back up has been good when we've needed it.

Long perfectors have affected our competitiveness on longer runs and it is a difficult market but hopefully this investment will help us maintain and gain business.

We are also looking to add a three-knife trimmer on our binding line by the end of the year.".
