Heidelberg's New Workflows and RIP
Heidelberg will be supplying customers with the latest release of its automated prepress workflow, Prinect Printready System 1.2, with immediate effect.
The press is also available with integrated UV technology for diverse coating and surface finishing options, boosting its flexibility even further.
It is capable of printing four-colour or five-colour jobs in a single pass on printing stocks ranging from 0.03mm (0.0012") thick paper to 0.8mm (0.03") thick board.
The UV model also prints films and plastic cards.
With a maximum claimed production speed of 15,000 sheets per hour, fast make-readies and automation, the press is suitable for commercial, packaging and label printers, added the company.
"The Speedmaster CD 74 eight-colour press enabled us to boost our productivity by up to 30 per cent.
Smooth sheet travel, a reliable sheet reversing process and the ability to use a diverse range of printing stocks are all impressive features," said Kurt Paredis, the chief executive officer of Belgian printshop Haletra.
As a field test customer, Haltera received one of the first long perfecting presses, whilst in the UK the chief executive officer of Hickling, Richard Wells, commented: "Make-ready times are extremely short and the quality is exceptional.
We process high grammages including board and the Preset feeder is both simple and quick to set, which in turn increases our productivity." At present, 75 per cent of Hickling's orders are 4/4 jobs.
As a result, said Wells, the CD 74 8-P is exactly the right press for the company.
The presses in the CD 74 range are available in two format variations - F format for packaging printing 60.5cm x 74 cm (23.82" x 29.13") and C format for commercial printing 53cm x 74cm (20.87" x 29.13").
Offset-Druck Mecklenburg, a printshop based near Lubeck (Germany) utilises a Speedmaster CD 74 five-colour press with perfecting device, coating unit and extended delivery.
"The F format enables us to print twice as many repeats on a print sheet for certain products like CD covers," said the company's chief executive officer Jens Zehl.
Heidelberg said that Because of the optimum utilisation of the print sheet, the company has managed to increase its productivity by up to 50 per cent and that Zehl is extremely impressed by the short make-ready time offered by the CD 74 and its easy operation via the Prinect CP2000 press control system.
Offset-Druck is continuing to grow and has already ordered its next press - a Speedmaster CD 74 eight-colour model with perfecting device and coating unit.
Heidelberg believes that the long perfecting presses and combined perfecting printing demonstrate the company's concept of providing modular and flexible presses that can be customised to suit customer requirements.
That ability was demonstrated by UK printshop Browns CTP will take delivery of a CD 74 with 12 printing units, which Heidelberg believes is the longest press in the medium format sector.
The specially produced press is also being delivered with the Cutstar sheeter which processes less expensive reel stock.
