Cold Foiling Module For Speedmaster Presses
Heidelberg has developed what it believes to be an innovative cold-foil process using tried-and-tested offset printing.
The 760-strong staff generates sales of 80 million Euros at four sites in France and one site in Germany (Rodgau).
The Speedmaster CD 74 is installed at the St Hilaire site in Normandy.
Bernard Bros, project manager at Alliora, said: "We're impressed with the productivity, short set-up times, flexibility and quality of the Speedmaster CD 74." The Speedmaster CD 74-2+LY-P-6+LYLX consists of eight inking units, three coating units, two drying units, and a perfecting device.
Alliora prints cardboard, film, and plastic and makes full use of a range of printing stock supported by the CD 74, from 0.03mm to 0.8mm and the 60cm x 74cm (23.62" x 29.13") format.
Heidelberg said that the flexibility of the machine means it can be used for a range of applications, including packaging with up to 2/6 colours with single or double-sided protective, glossy or special-effect coatings.
The press operates for straight printing up to eight colours, with subsequent single or dual coating, and for matt and gloss spot coatings in the final double coating group.
The high register accuracy, smooth sheet travel, and perfecting ensure quality and scratch-free products, added Heidelberg.
That also allows sensitive film and metallised printing materials to be printed on both sides in a single pass.
The German press manufacturer believes that customised presses are a growth sector.
One machine in every five in the 70cm x 100cm (27.56" x 39.37") format has already been specially configured.
Small format and midsize format presses are catching up.
The Speedmaster CD 74 is at the forefront, with 20 per cent of the machines being customised, many with integrated UV technology.
Over 150 CD 74 UV presses have been installed throughout the world, added the company.
The tailored customised presses are now no longer just supplied to industrialised nations but are also increasingly sold to emerging industrial nations in eastern Europe, Asia and Africa.
Customised machines enable users to offer innovative print products by using UV or hybrid printing, dual coating, flexo before offset, in-line die-cutting, or pure offline coating, for instance.
Over 5,000 Speedmaster CD 74 printing units have been installed worldwide since their market launch at Drupa 2000, commented Heidelberg.
