Heidelberg is now showcasing at Ipex 2006 what it claimed to be the world's first 10-colour press in 35cm x 50cm (13.78" x 19.68") format, the Speedmaster SM 52-10-P.

Heidelberg is now showcasing at Ipex 2006 what it claimed to be the world's first 10-colour press in 35cm x 50cm (13.78" x 19.68") format, the Speedmaster SM 52-10-P.

The company said it believes it is responding to the growing demand for even longer perfectors in this format with the new press.

Heidelberg first presented the Speedmaster SM 52-8-P, the first long perfector in A3 format, at Drupa 2004.

With the Speedmaster SM 52 10-colour press, commercial printshops can further rationalise the production of items with special colours or coatings in a single pass, said Heidelberg.

Varnishing is particularly beneficial, speeding up post-press operations and protecting products more effectively.

As a result, the press is said to be suitable for short runs with frequent job changes.
