With the objective of replacing, modernising and updating its CTP operation, Western Graphics of St Paul, Minnesota (USA) has installed the 1,500th Suprasetter CTP platesetter provided by Heidelberg.

The Heidelberg Suprasetter has replaced an older Topsetter system Meanwhile, the IGAS exhibition in Japan, from September 21 - 27 in Tokyo, will see the 6,000th CTP system produced by Heidelberg on show

Dr Jurgen Rautert, Heidelberg's chief technical officer, commented: "The impressive market success of 6,000 CTP devices made by Heidelberg shows that throughout the world the company has the answer for customer needs with its CTP strategy.

Users especially love the reliability, ease of operation, quality and modularity of our systems." Heidelberg explained that it began developing technology for direct imaging printing plates at the beginning of the 1990s.

The take over of Linotype Hell AG in 1997 saw the launch of CTP platesetters with the Trendsetter and Topsetter models.

In 2001, Heidelberg unveiled the Prosetter series, its first, in-house developed CTP platesetter range for small, medium and large formats based on violet technology.

At Drupa 2004, the company presented the Suprasetter family based on thermal technology, a modular design and a new stable laser head, all developed in-house.

The latest launch was the Suprasetter A52/A74 series last year.

That is claimed to offer small and mid-sized print shops a cost-effective entry to thermal platesetting whilst maintaining the same imaging quality as with the high-end models in the series.
