After 8,000 people passed through Heidelberg's Educ@te Centre in Eppelheim (Germany) for training it has emphasised the demand for professional basic and advanced training courses in printing.

That is according to the company, which said that those participants that have attended training courses since the centre opened last July Heidelberg said that the PMA training centre offers customers and staff throughout the world practical and theoretical training in offset printing with the latest developments in printing technology communicated in a clear and practical manner

Each course is scheduled to last five to 10 days and around 20 courses are held simultaneously each week.

Heidelberg employs 140 certified trainers.

The eight-week basic training course, Educ@te, for Heidelberg service staff, is also held at the Eppelheim training centre, which is part of an integrated training concept at Heidelberg.

Training courses on presses and seminars for Prinect pre-press software are based on the very latest standards.

The 10,000 square metre training centre has 34 rooms for press and software training, with 20 presses currently installed in three halls, each equipped with the latest technology, said Heidelberg, which claimed that the centre houses the largest collection of Heidelberg presses for training purposes anywhere in the world.

The range of machines extends from a simple press for printing letterheads to a 10-colour press that can be used, for example, to print high-finish perfume packaging or artwork.

Heidelberg staff are also already being trained in the use of new presses that will be unveiled at the Drupa 2008 exhibition.

The former print shop meets the high construction standards required to accommodate a large number of presses weighing several tons added the company.

Heidelberg added that its Print Media Academy offers technical and management staff in the printing industry a range of training courses tailored to meet industry requirements.

The Print Media Academy portfolio comprises one-off seminars as well as international management programmes, training, specialist congresses and publications.

The academy is also the hub of a growing global network that currently extends across 17 locations in 14 countries.

The 17th Print Media Academy opened its doors in Prague in the autumn.

Each year, around 17,000 technical and management staff from the industry take part in courses offered by the worldwide Print Media Academy network.

Bernd Schopp, the head of the Print Media Academy, said: "The encouraging response from customers and staff to our wide-ranging training programme at the Educ@te Centre underlines the demand for professional basic and advanced training courses.

The practical training courses on state-of-the-art technology are proving particularly popular.

Participants completing these courses should be able to use the entire range of functions offered by our systems." And he added: "Educ@te is a genuine seal of quality in training for Heidelberg and our customer training courses also meet its high standards.

That is why it was chosen as the name of the training centre.".
