Heidelberg Presses Star At Waterless Print Centre

New six-colour Speedmaster CD 74 UV and Suprasetter A74 presses from Heidelberg are the focal points of the newly refurbished Marks-3zet waterless printing centre in Mulheim (Germany).

Because of the new presses, Marks-3zet can now demonstrate jobs, from platesetting to waterless UV printing.

A number of the demonstration jobs at the waterless printing centre will relate to printing plastic cards and foils because many print shops in that market prefer waterless offset printing, added Heidelberg.

According to Heidelberg, Marks-3zet has been a specialist on waterless printing for 25 years.

It invented, and is claimed to be the world market leader for calibrated under-packing sheets, supplies self-adhesive underlay foils with colour schemes and also sells waterless printing plates from Toray.

The new Heidelberg presses are said to demonstrate the advantages of waterless printing with photo-realistic print quality with sharper edges and the use of fine screens.

In addition, waterless offset printing helps the environment because there is no ink and water balance to adjust and, therefore, there is less paper waste.

The company added that there are also no air emissions resulting from dampening solution and alcohol, as well as quick ink drying that enables rapid finishing.

Marks-3zet and Heidelberg are members of the European Waterless Printing Association and also see the new facility as a competence centre for waterless offset printing.

Heidelberg said that the partnership is a further aspect of its commitment to plastics and card printing.

Six months ago, Heidelberg provided equipment for the showroom of Muhlbauer in Roding.

Muhlbauer is a supplier of finishing and security equipment for plastic card production and there, a Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 52 UV press with an iris printing device adds the finishing touch to integrated workflows for plastic card manufacturers.
