At this year's management meeting of the European Rotogravure Association in Manchester (UK) the ERA innovation award was presented to the consortium of KWalter, Bauer-Logistik, and Hell for the fully automatic Autocon production line.

By using Autocon, production times for impression cylinders in publication gravure have been virtually halved, said Hell.

The impression cylinders go through all steps of a fully-automatic process from electroplating to engraving until they can be finally installed in the press.

The process is monitored by a single employee.

Printers using Autocon can operate much more flexibly, believes Hell, thereby boosting their competitiveness.

Major printshops, such as Burda, Eurogravure, Heliolys, Polestar, Prinovis, Quad Graphics, Quebecor, Rotosmeets, and RR Donnelley have already made successful investments in this technology, ensuring that gravure printing's share of the market continues to rise throughout the world, added Hell.
