Anilox roll supplier Harper Corporation's Harper Scientific division has developed an automated proofing system called the Sharper Color Proofer System.

Anilox roll supplier Harper Corporation's Harper Scientific division has developed an automated proofing system called the Sharper Color Proofer System With a claimed constant substrate speed of approximately 100 inches per minute and an operating air pressure of up to 100psi, the proofer is designed to simulate a press by pulling the substrate past a fixed and constantly loaded proofer to optimise the proofing process

Weighing 27 pounds, it is said to beportable and it can be manoeuvred from the ink lab to the pressroom - or even a different location - for maximum efficiency.

Tony Donato, Harper Scientific's technical sales manager, said: "This system allows printers to get a measurable draw-down right the first time, without the variable of operating the proofer by hand.

Trying to achieve less than one on the Delta E scale is every printer's goal.

This automated, air-driven unit allows printers to do just that." In addition, the device is not limited to paper substrates as it is claimed to also work well with films.

The Sharper Color Proofer System is said to work best with the Echocel Junior, or the Phantom Proofer however, it is adaptable to all other proofers.

The Echocel Junior and Phantom Proofer use laser-engraved ceramic proofer rolls, allowing the system to mimic the laser-engraved anilox rolls on the press.

Harper claimed that when combined with the Sharper Color Proofer System's constant paper speed and loading pressure, that creates precision ink film thickness draw-downs.
