Harper Corporation has awarded Tom Gerrits the company's 'going the extra mile award'.

Harper Corporation has awarded Tom Gerrits the company's 'going the extra mile award'.

A superfinish operator at the company's Green Bay manufacturing facility in De Pere, Wisconsin (USA) Gerrits was nominated for the award for the quality of his work, the pride he takes in doing his job well, the effort he makes and the quantity of what he accomplishes.

Richard Roffers, Harper Corporation's Green Bay plant manager, said: "Tom has a great attitude.

He loves his work and makes a kind of game out of it.

He likes to see if he can break his own record for square inches produced in a day.

Every day he comes in smiling and ready." Nearly three years ago, Harper initiated the 'going the extra mile award' and since then the company has recognised numerous employees for their dedication to excellence in their daily work, said the company.

Margaret Harper Kluttz, Harper's executive vice president, said: "Traditionally, this award is given as a surprise during a meeting with the recipient's supervisor and the extra mile committee." Gerrits, working at Harper's Charlotte facility on an employee exchange programme, was presented the award by Kluttz, Art Ehrenberg, Harper's vice president of operations and Roffers, who attended the ceremony via video link from Green Bay.

Winners receive a medallion and a gift certificate, in addition to having their names engraved on four plaques, one of which is displayed at each of Harper's operations at Charlotte and the Green Bay office and manufacturing facility.

All employees are eligible to nominate a colleague or be nominated by a colleague for the award.
