Welsh Print Firm's GBP3m Spend On New Machinery

The start of 2007 has seen the completion of the latest round of investment by Tonypandy (Wales) company HSW Print amounting to GBP3million.

The start of 2007 has seen the completion of the latest round of investment by Tonypandy (Wales) company HSW Print amounting to GBP3million.

The investment in new equipment means that HSW Print has become one of the largest printing operations in Wales, attracting printing contracts from across the UK and employing over 80 people, said the company.

To capitalise on the new machinery the company has changed to a continental shift pattern, which means printing seven days-a-week, increasing capacity by nearly a third.

As a direct result, six new employees have been recruited.

HSW Print director, David Hackman, said: "These new developments will give us the opportunity to further grow the business and confirm our position as one of the largest printers in the UK.

As a result of this investment our turnover will grow from GBP6million to GBP8million." The investment involved the purchase of a new large format 10-colour Heidelberg printing press, a Muller Martini Acoro perfect binding line and an automatic waste paper extraction system.

Malcolm Hackman, director at HSW Print, added: "The installation of the binder and the printing press affords us the opportunity to work on larger projects than before.

We are now in a position to compete both in terms of efficiency and cost effectiveness for some of the major printing contracts in the UK.

By investing in modern equipment we are able to utilsze modern technology to ensure quality is never sacrificed in the name of speed and, hence, successfully compete in what is increasingly becoming a global market place." And he continued: "In addition, the installation of the waste extraction process demonstrates our commitment to reducing, where possible, the negative aspects of our activity on the environment.

Chemicals and waste paper are removed instantly through pressurised vents, ensuring a safe and clean environment for our staff and the wider community.".
