Sales of a new filtration unit are exceeding expectations as trials confirm a performance better than hoped for by consumables specialist Hydro-Dynamic Products (HDP).

Launched by Shoreham (UK) HDP earlier this year, the Envirofilter is claimed to extend the life of dampening solutions by one to three months, thereby reducing disposal costs and, by maintaining water quality, cuts costly drain downs by up to four times.

HDP managing director David Sheard said: "Trials have confirmed that the elimination of any requirement to decalcify rollers combined with the extended time between dampening solution changes enables a downtime saving of up to seven hours every month to be achieved." Those savings have been confirmed by Mike Wickens, plant manager at Partridge Green-based Claremont Press, who said: "We have been running an Envirofilter for six months and the result has certainly overcome my scepticism when I agreed to participate in a trial.

Our calculations show that the installation cost of the unit has easily been recovered over the trial period, which means we are now reaping the financial benefit of major savings in machine downtime and waste solution disposal." Said to be compact and easy to install, the Envirofilter is operated by the machine's compressed air supply so uses no additional power and it is also maintenance-free as filters can be changed whilst the press is in use, said HDP.
