Plate Cleaning And Washes Range Extension
UK print consumables company Hydro-Dynamic Products (HDP) will be emphasising its new range of plate cleaners and press washes that have been added to the company's Totalrespect portfolio at Drupa.
Anti-Marking System For Wet Web Sheet Transfer
Hydro-Dynamic Products has introduced White Star, an anti-marking system designed to ensure the transfer of wet printed sheets through the transfer cylinders of sheetfed presses.
The West Sussex (UK) company said blades should be viewed as a consumable item, rather than a replacement machine part and changed regularly.
HDP sales director Roger Markin said: "It's probably the least appreciated part of the litho printing press but it's the key to fast, efficient wash-ups and a major reducer of down-time." Many printers viewed blades as indestructible and kept them on machine for up to two years.
In fact, the rubber tip loses its flexibility and up to 10 per cent more solvent can be needed to complete a reasonable roller wash, he added.
Markin explained: "Wash up blades are consumable products and should be replaced every three months on a busy press to keep rollers in good condition and performing as they should.
But we shouldn't view them just as spare parts because they're a sophisticated environmental tool that can dramatically reduce solvent waste and protect machine operators from hazardous vapours.
Indeed, regular inspection and recorded replacement should become a standard housekeeping function." HDP, which produces green consumables, is marketing its own wash-up blade.
Sold under the brand name, the company said the blade its Superblade available for all leading press makes, is resistant to chemical attack from inks and solvents and gives excellent wash-up results, whilst reducing the amount of chemicals used and press down-time.
