Saving money whilst also improving environmental performance, J Thomson Colour Printers is gaining the benefits of a dampening solution filtration system on three presses at its Glasgow plant.

Iain Jackson, print manager at the Scotland's J Thomson, said: "Since installing the filter system we have seen a substantial increase in the life of dampening solution with a corresponding reduction in the number of drain downs.

The filters are saving us money and helping improve our environmental performance." The Envirofilter, which was launched early this year by environmental pressroom green consumables company Hydro-Dynamic Products, is claimed to be sufficient to filter a 12-colour press with the initial installation cost recovered in four to six months and under normal operating conditions, said the company.

Larger Envirofilter units are also available.

The maintenance-free Envirofilter is claimed to be easy to install and filters can be changed whilst the press is in use.

No electric power is needed because the filter the compressed air unit already installed on the press.

Hydrodynamic Products said Envirofilter sales are approaching 100 units as a growing number of printing companies seek to cut costs and reduce their dependence on eco-damaging industrial alcohol.
