Because of a high level of minerals, water is said to be extremely hard in Turkey, which is why the largest newspaper group in the country has installed a dampening solution filtration system.

Two of Hydro-Dynamic Product's Envirofilter units have been installed in tandem on a Goss news press by Hurriyet, which had also experienced that contamination was further exacerbated by the use of paper and ink of varying quality.

So successful is the instllation of the Envirofilter at Hurriyet that the compay intends to roll out the installation of Envirofilters at all its regional newspaper plants.

Before installing the filters the solution had to be changed at the end of every daily print run to help eliminate any problems the next day caused by the heavy contamination.

After the filters were fitted the level of contamination was reduced, enabling the same fount solution to be used for a complete week's production, said Hydro-Dynamic Products.

Claimed to be proven to extend the lifespan of dampening solution from a few days to a few months, the Envirofilter is also said to eliminate calcium and keep the fountain solution in optimum condition.

Hydro-Dynamic Products said that the filter can more than halve solution costs and that it reduces the amount of environmental waste and the cost of disposal.
