For the first time ever, a flexible packaging area will be introduced at Ipex 2006.

IIR Exhibitions brings flexible packaging focus to Ipex 2006 For the first time ever, a flexible packaging area has been introduced at Ipex Located in Hall 1 of the 11-hall exhibition, which runs from 4-11 April 2006, the flexible packaging area is designed to showcase new technologies and materials for the industry

The area will also house a Flexible Packaging Centre of Excellence.

Ipex 2006 organiser, IIR Exhibitions, has introduced this area in response to flexible packaging's growing importance within the packaging market and the print industry as a whole.

Recent developments in technology have created a higher demand for flexible packaging.

Within the food industry in particular, where films and foils can provide longer shelf lives and where flexible pouches have replaced cans and jars, flexible packaging is becoming a more attractive option and is set to increase in both popularity and market share.

With this in mind, the flexible packaging area at Ipex 2006 will enable exhibitors and visitors to network and build business relationships.

The Centre of Excellence, a central focal point of the flexible packaging area, is a purpose built theatre which will play host to customer and supplier best practice case studies.

Liz Zinnbauer of GEW said: 'When we learned of the new dedicated packaging focus at Ipex we changed our stand location in order to be in Hall 1.

'The Flexible Packaging Centre of Excellence initiative provides a platform where exhibitors and visitors alike can share new and evolving market applications.

'GEW is looking forward to being part of this initiative'.

David Jones of Alphasonics said: 'As our market is predominantly narrow web flexo, we see Ipex 2006 as a great opportunity to reach out to the wider web market with our knowledge and experience.

'Our stand position within hall 1 will undoubtedly enable us to present new and existing innovations directly to the right people.

'The Flexible Packaging Centre of Excellence is a great idea, bringing together suppliers and customers in one forum where new ideas and practices can be debated in a helpful and informative way that benefits everyone'.

Bertrand Fara of DCM added: 'We are delighted that Ipex 2006 is dedicating a complete area to flexible packaging and see it as a major benefit for both visitors and exhibitors.

'The new show floor layout will attract visitors who didn't come to our stand last time around and will enable us to target the right prospects.

'We will definitely show our latest flexo equipment, which we didn't do at the last Ipex in 2002'.

Peter Hall, commercial manager for Ipex 2006, said: 'Flexible packaging is an important element within both packaging and print and it is important that Ipex 2006 supports this process.

'The flexible packaging area has already gained support from a number of press manufacturers, ensuring that visitors will be able to see a wide range of products on display.

'The Centre of Excellence has also been very well received by exhibitors and is set to be great success when the show opens'.

Ipex 2006 takes place on 4-11 April 2006 at the NEC in Birmingham and is set to be the number-one global printing show of the year.
