Ipex has introduced a full programme of technical training, free of charge, to make the experience of exhibiting more valuable to and provide a powerful reason to attend.

That's the opinion of show organiser IIR Exhibitions, which said that with tight deadlines and limited resources, it is often difficult to justify allowing staff to leave the workplace - even for an event as important as Ipex.

But those staff are often key figures in the specification and purchasing process, and a visit to Ipex will bring real benefits to their companies, believes IIR.

The programme, sponsored by Canon, will run every morning of the show in the Ipex Training Centre (off the show floor) and on selected exhibitors' stands.

Attendees will gain accreditation from the BPIF and their YMP Professional Development Programme scheme.

Each session will last 45 minutes, allowing plenty of time for visitors to see the exhibition as well, added IIR.

Supported by the BPIF and Amicus GPM Sector, the training programme will provide instruction.

David Tarren, national training advisor for Amicus GPM Sector commented: "There is now ample evidence to suggest that UK employers do not train their staff to the extent they should and this affects the business and its workforce.

A skilled workforce can improve competitiveness and reduce labour turnover.

In a highly competitive global market it is only the firms that train employees that will survive." He continued: "Everyone needs to improve their skills, whether it's a young person just starting out or an older worker with many years' experience, and from workers on the shop floor right through to those in the boardroom." Speakers involved in the training programme will include Richard Gray, chief executive of Vision in Print, who will talk about 'Working smarter, not harder'.

Dale Wallis, the national health, safety and environmental manager with the BPIF will discuss the environmental challenges facing printers and John Lacey, the service products executive from Muller Martini will consider maximising equipment efficiency.

In addition, Darrin Stevens, group training manager with the Polestar Group, will introduce Printdynamics, a multi-purpose training and educational tool that is available to all printers.

Sarah Harvey, IIR's marketing director for Ipex, said: "Ipex is a perfect opportunity for your staff to learn practical, applicable skills they can implement as soon as they get back to base.

Ipex will offer a daily programme of free high quality technical training, including expert presentations and stand visits for practical sessions.

Posters and other promotional material featuring the 'Make Training Pay' strap-line, are also available to promote awareness and encourage attendance on the shop floor." Places for the training programme must be booked in advance.

Full details are available at the Ipex website.

People that pre-register now for Ipex via the website will avoid the queues and save the GBP30 entrance fee.
