Litho print's strong presence at Ipex 2010 show

An IPEX 2010 product story

Almost 150 lithographic technology companies from across the globe will take over one third of the 60,000 square metres of the Ipex 2010 exhibition floorspace in the UK, from 18-25 May.

All major offset manufacturers will have a presence at the show, including Goss, Heidelberg, KBA, Komori, MAN Roland, Mitsubishi, Presstek, Sakurai, Ryobi, Shinohara, UPGroup and Shangahi Electric.

The organisers of Ipex 2010, IIR Exhibitions, said that despite the economic environment Ipex has remained popular for offset printing equipment companies to showcase their machinery and newest technology.

Of all lithographic press manufacturers situated across four halls at the show Heidelberg, KBA, Goss, MAN Roland and Komori will have the largest stands.

Trevor Crawford, Ipex 2010's event director, said: 'Almost 30 per cent of the show's floorspace will be devoted to offset, proving that despite tough competition from other printing technologies, it continues to play a highly important role in print production.

Feedback from exhibitors indicates that visitors can expect innovative new equipment at the show with a strong focus on automation, productivity and added value options to help printers stay competitive and create new business opportunities in this tough market.

George Clarke, managing director of Heidelberg UK, said: 'At Ipex Heidelberg will replicate a typical print shop with presses of various formats, handling a range of stocks, paper types, inks and jobs and switching over quickly and efficiently to continuously produce first rate print.

More and more artificial intelligence and automation is built into the latest generation presses and this trend coupled with developments in paper and materials flow will be seen in Hall 8.

He added: 'Ipex 2010 is a venue for innovation and in today's demanding market printers should be looking at press developments that allow them to be more productive, flexible and effective.

Lean manufacturing, environmental solutions and colour control will be key issues at this show.

The printers' customers care much more about quality and sustainability than ever before.

Certification, accreditations and proven control mechanisms are expected and often need to be specified in tender documents.

At the same time printers are competing not only against each other but against rival media so they need systems that allow them to be responsive and extremely cost-competitive.

We live in a world of much more bespoke presses with many more in-line options so that printers can still find niche which allow them to stand out from the crowd.

Philip Dunn, European marketing manager at Komori, commented: 'We've always enjoyed great success at Ipex; the show presents the ideal opportunity to talk with our existing customers and meet printers who are not familiar with Komori technology, from across the world.

We receive very positive feedback from visitors to Ipex. For example, our distributors find it a manageable show to visit, thanks to the exhibition layout.

Visitors to the Komori stand - 06-B520 - will be able to see demonstrations of our new technologies and will be able to witness the production of the official Ipex Daily publication on our stand.

Jacques Navarre, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Goss International, explained: 'Ipex 2010 provides the perfect opportunity to present the latest updates on our technology developments first presented at Drupa 2008, which are now successfully installed and fulfilling expectations.

We participate because we believe the unique show environment provides value for our customers and for our industry, generating enthusiasm for new technology and ideas.

It is also the first major event for us following the ownership investment by Shanghai Electric Corporation and, as such, is an ideal platform for presenting the strengthened structure, our innovative press and finishing technology and an expanding product range.

In exhibiting jointly with Shanghai Electric - a large and financially strong organisation with an industrial focus, an international outlook and a long-term commitment to the print sector - we will be sending a strong signal about our continued ability to innovate, execute and provide value through a worldwide manufacturing and support platform.
