Imaje has introduced the new Imaje 4020 inkjet coder to its 4000 series of large character printers.

Imaje has introduced the new Imaje 4020 inkjet coder to its 4000 series of large character printers The 4020, using drop on demand valve technology, replaces the Crayon X-tra and is described by Imaje as its mid-range large character printer, positioned between the Crayon Plus coder and the high resolution 4040 printer

Building on the success of the Crayon Plus and the claimed simplicity of the Crayon X-tra, the 4020 is said to benefit from such features as improved printing capabilities and increased connectivity.

Martin Dijkstra, product manager for large character coders for the Imaje Group, explained: "This new coder was designed to incorporate the acknowledged user-friendliness of the Crayon Plus and to provide improved printing capabilities, flexibility and connectivity.

My feeling is that with the Imaje 4020 coder, we have truly achieved our goal." The 4020 features 'intuitive' icons with local language menus for navigation.

The wide-screen backlit graphic display and real time status indicators with printhead detection and low ink level add to the user friendliness, claimed the company.

The 4020 is said to control up to four printheads with individual printing parameters for each printhead.

Claimed printing speeds of up to 90 metres per minute can be achieved and, with a variable print height from 8mm to 64mm, together with top, bottom and side positioning, flexibility is further enhanced, added Imaje.

The coder can be integrated on to a production line and can be connected to a network by way of two RS232 ports and an Ethernet port.

A selection of inks is available to enable the 4020 to print on to porous, semi-porous and non-porous substrates, whilst the 30- litre ink barrel ensures maximum operational time, said the company.

Steve Ellison, Imaje's UK operations manager, remarked: "With the addition of the new 4020 to our 4000 range of large character printers, we have further improved our versatility and flexibility.

We can now be sure that whatever the secondary coding requirements are, we will have the very best system to meet those needs.".
