IBM yesterday unveiled two new software products that are claimed to provide a wider range of print options for mainframe clients The company said that it has added a new encryption feature to its mainframe computers that enables safer transmission of data - this time for its new high-speed production printers, the IBM Infoprint 4100, which were first announced in September

IBM has launched an AFP colour emulation feature for its Infoprint 4100 production printer. It is expected to be generally available from June 23.
The new software also incorporates virtualisation technology to automatically and securely transform and transmit print-ready jobs from a server running the z/OS operating system - the first time IBM has delivered its virtualisation technology to printers.
IBM added that its new virtualised product mainframes can automatically package large files in to portable, print-ready files, reducing the time it takes to prepare, send and print large files from days to a few hours, whether done in-house or via remote locations.
