IBM yesterday unveiled two new software products that are claimed to provide a wider range of print options for mainframe clients The company said that it has added a new encryption feature to its mainframe computers that enables safer transmission of data - this time for its new high-speed production printers, the IBM Infoprint 4100, which were first announced in September

The new software also incorporates virtualisation technology to automatically and securely transform and transmit print-ready jobs from a server running the z/OS operating system - the first time IBM has delivered its virtualisation technology to printers.

IBM added that its new virtualised product mainframes can automatically package large files in to portable, print-ready files, reducing the time it takes to prepare, send and print large files from days to a few hours, whether done in-house or via remote locations.
