Flatbed Inkjet Printer Generates New Business
The latest UK installation of an Inca Eagle H has gone to screen printer Polyprint Plastics, which says that the inkjet flatbed printer has transformed the company's workload.
It has three output modes producing resolutions from 400dpi- 1,000dpi, and has a maximum output of 50 square metres an hour, claimed the company.
"We believe that the Spyder breaks new ground in piezo drop-on-demand inkjet technology," said Inca's managing director Bill Baxter.
He said the Spyder was a further development of its established Eagle and Columbia printers and from that base Inca had built up comprehensive knowledge of what different markets required.
The Spyder was designed from scratch to meet the needs of the photo lab and digital print sectors, he added.
The Spyder is said to use a new set of UV inks from Sericol, the distributor for the Eagle and Columbia printers and the new Spyder.
It also incorporates the latest inkjet heads to be released by US manufacturer Spectra.
The machine could also print edge to edge on to a wide range of substrates up to 30 mm thick.
Its registration system allows operators to print on the reverse side of a material using the same lay edge each time, enabling the image to be accurately registered.
It is supplied with a Wasatch version 5.0 software RIP that accepts all popular file formats including PostScript 3, EPS, TIFF and PDF using both RGB and CMYK.
"The format is ideal for companies producing point-of-sale, which might not have the volume of work to warrant the purchase of the larger Eagle.
However, users have the benefits of a machine that matches all the build quality and reliability of the Eagle and Columbia printers," said Baxter.
Jobs consisting of only one copy are cost effective on an Inca printer, as well as runs of several hundred, added the company.
The company expects the Spyder's first showing in Europe will be at Drupa 2004 in May but it also expects to take orders for the printer before that.
