US Firm Has Crush On Digital Screen Printers
Crush Creative, a west coats USA digital print houses has installed an Eagle H flatbed digital press from UK manufacturer Inca Digital Printers.
Called Uvijet, the inks remain stable in the printheads but cure instantly after being applied to the substrate said the company.
The inks create vibrant, durable colours with a wide gamut, and provide good chemical and abrasion resistance, as well as two to three years outdoor durability claimed the company.
TEWA's parent company, which employs 100 people between its sites in Austria, Croatia and Slovenia, has set up the new company with six staff and this number is expected to increase over the coming months.
"TEWA is both a flexographic printer and a producer of corrugated board," said Karl Ebner, who heads the new company.
"Nearly 20% of the print orders received had to be sent out to local firms operating conventional screen presses or wide format inkjet printers.
This was obviously a significant amount of work and we could see that digital output technology was the way for us to bring this in-house and to expand going forward in the future," said Ebner.
"We carried out a huge amount of research into the digital print market and it became clear that a flatbed inkjet machine would offer us the greatest flexibility, and of the flatbed models on the market Inca came out way ahead in terms of quality and productivity.
Since its installation in February the Eagle H flatbed printer has lived up to all our expectations.
We've put a wide range of work through the machine, from plastic to aluminium and, of course, corrugated board and the Eagle H has handled them all with great accuracy and reliability," he added.
He said that the machine had produced as many as 2,000 images and they have all been in total register and with consistent colour.
TEWA Digital Print has produced work from point-of-sale for local shops, hoardings for football stadiums, packaging for a washing machine range and advertising material for a ferry company.
The largest job so far consisted of 1,500 square metres of material and required 20 changes throughout the print run.
"The Eagle H lets us alter the image very easily and quickly and this is a huge advantage in terms of flexibility and productivity.
The print quality is excellent," said Ebner.
"We can output images at 1,200dpi and we've already produced jobs that have been printed on the Eagle and a conventional screen press to obtain the best of both worlds.
Although there has been a steep learning curve, it hasn't been as difficult as we imagined moving into digital output.
Inca and Sericol have provided us with good training and support, with queries answered quickly over the telephone.
Also, we supply our customers with a data profile for them to send digital jobs in the correct format, which eliminates potential problems at this stage," commented Ebner.
