Flatbed Inkjets Will Open New Markets
Imas, the Italian distributor of the Inca flatbed printer series, believes that the latest models from the UK manufacturer will open up significant new markets for flatbed inkjet technology.
The Columbia Turbo is said to be suitable for companies handling short runs as well as longer-run jobs and can also personalise print.
Like the other printers in the Inca range, the Columbia Turbo is straightforward to use, added the company.
The machine has a maximum print area of 126" x 63" (3.2 metres x 1.6 metres), and can print on to rigid substrates up to 1.5 inches (40mm) thick.
Substrates can include paper, board, wood, textiles, glass, flexible and rigid plastic, as well as single-faced corrugated board and foam.
The use of Sericol Uvijet-curable inks, printed directly on to the substrate, is claimed to eliminate many of the finishing processes that are required when using solvent inks on rolls of flexible materials, such as mounting and sealing.
Inca's managing director, Bill Baxter, said: "We work closely with screen ink manufacturer Sericol, which has developed the inks used in our flatbed printers.
The excellent inks cure instantly when they pass under the UV lamps incorporated within the printer, to create vibrant four-colour images that are durable outdoors." Each Inca printer is supplied with a Wasatch software RIP, which provides colour management and accepts all common files formats including PostScript 3, EPS, TIFF and PDF.
"The ability to produce customised and variable print data is one of the reasons why digital printing, regardless of the output technology, is so popular.
With this level of flexibility it is economical to print just one copy, or a job where the information being printed changes throughout the run.
However, the high printing speeds of the Columbia Turbo make it cost effective for screen printers' longer runs," added Baxter.
