Flatbed Inkjet Printer Boosts Short-Run Profits
Improving the productivity and profitability of short and medium display material print runs has led BMA to add an Inca Digital Spyder 320+ flatbed inkjet printer to its screen printing presses.
The Spyder 320+ has CMYK, plus light cyan and light magenta.
French firm BMA specialises in universal display material, such as point of sale advertising, building wraps, awnings, banners, billboards or cards and, according to Inca, BMA is committed to finding the materials and substrates that perfectly suit its customers' projects.
The company offers printing services, together with consulting and design services.
Nicolas Coquet, production director at BMA, said: "Our company focuses on large format screen printing and digital printing.
We are receiving an increasing number of requests for short and medium runs, which were no longer profitable on our rotary screen presses." The Spyder 320+, supplied by exclusive distributor Fujifilm Sericol, is part of Inca's most popular printer range to date and prints up to a maximum speed of 80 square metres per hour, claimed the company.
Its inkjet technology uses what is described as the smallest binary drop size on a commercial flatbed printer currently available, reducing graininess and creating smoother images.
In Coquet's opinion, one of the advantages of the Inca Spyder 320+ is that it isn't a combination press and he explained: "As we already have rotary screen presses, we were looking for a machine to complement them." He feels that combination presses are ideal for operators that are starting from scratch in digital printing.
However, if a combination press breaks down, both types of production come to a halt, whereas if separate rotary and flatbed printers are available, one production method can continue, which minimises the loss of productivity.
BMA prints on all types of rigid material, from PET through plywood to polycarbonate.
Coquet commented: "BMA specialises in the printing of high quality four-colour images.
It is vital that quality is completely consistent and that's what we get from colour printing on the Spyder 320+.
We want to be able to say to the customer that we can deliver his printed product on the substrate of his choosing, whatever the thickness and type of material." He added that the arrival of the Inca Spyder 320+ digital flatbed inkjet printer allows the company to work in parallel markets and will open doors to new business for the company.
