Independent Paper is opening a new West Midlands (UK) branch following the recruitment of Steve Plant from Beswick Paper.

Independent Paper is opening a new West Midlands (UK) branch following the recruitment of Steve Plant from Beswick Paper Plant (51) will be sales manager for Independent's West Midlands region having switched from Beswick's after 27 years

He commented: "I am looking forward to working for Independent Paper after the take-over at Beswick's.

I was looking for a company that shares my core values.

I have been used to working in an independent company.

I believe that with an independent you get the chance to build up business through friendships, you become part and parcel of the set up of the company." Independent's chairman Mike Gee believes Plant's appointment provides the ideal opportunity for the company to expand.

"Steve's experience will enable us to develop our business in the West Midlands building on our reputation as an independent paper merchant focused on maintaining customers' freedom of choice," said Gee.

British-owned, Independent currently has four regional distribution centres - Leicester, Swanley, Wakefield and Warrington.

The company said it is currently looking at two possible sites for its new branch - both in the Black Country.

It hopes to sign up for the new site within the next month but in the meantime West Midlands business will operate through the Leicester branch.

Once the West Midlands branch is open, Roy Butler will transfer from his current position at the Leicester office to become the new office manager in the West Midlands.

Butler also worked for Beswick's in the West Midlands from 1992 to 1995.

Stephen Goodwin, who spent his first 20 years in the paper trade in Birmingham, will have overall responsibility for the East Midlands and West Midlands operations.

Gee commented: "While this expansion marks a period of growth for the company, we remain committed to our core values of quality, care and customer service.

Our customers' needs remain vitally important to us.".
